Writing With AI: Yay or Nay?

The Clique Collective is a digital marketing agency in Jacksonville, FL. We specialize in writing/editing services, SEO, social media management, and website design. This is our blog (aka, a space where we ramble on about our strong marketing opinions and hope that someone will read it). Enjoy!

It’s 2pm. Your desk is a mess. Your email inbox is overflowing. You’re one Slack notification away from booking a one-way flight to another continent. The cherry on top? You still have a new social media post to write with updates about an important event next month. What on earth are you supposed to do?

If opening Claude is your first instinct, you’re about to hear some hard but necessary truths. Don’t worry, though — we don’t judge! We’re here to help.

Should I use AI to write?

We get it, you’re busy and likely overwhelmed with what feels like a never ending to-do list. The grind truly never stops as an entrepreneur, so you have to use all the resources at your disposal to delegate tasks whenever possible. For some people, this delegation process always automatically includes using AI tools to write copy.

Asking ChatGPT to craft a compelling CTA for your Instagram caption or to take care of the landing page copy on your website sounds like a genius idea, right? After all, it saves you time, there are plenty of free AI tools, and then you can check that task off your list altogether.

The truth is, though, that you actually will end up “paying” for that decision in the long run. Just, not through your wallet. Using AI writing tools like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, or Claude may seem like an easy way to support your business and save time, but there are several major drawbacks to writing using AI.

Cons of using AI in business

There’s no denying that AI offers an advanced and powerful way to learn new things, organize your thoughts, and even manage personal tasks like meal planning or rewording a text message more succinctly. Heck, everyone and their mother even seem to be letting ChatGPT write their weekly grocery list. That said, it cannot do everything.

Contrary to popular belief, AI will never truly be able to replace human thought. It isn’t conscious, it doesn’t have the capacity for human emotion, and it cannot compete with real, raw creativity. This is where you — as a business owner — will always have the advantage when it comes to writing marketing copy.

Using AI to write social captions or landing page copy takes away the humanness and originality of your own voice. Claude can’t personally tell your unique story, Gemini can’t really capture the passion you have for the goods or services you provide.

Can people tell when you write with AI?

Yes. Very much yes. And, if we’re being radically honest, most consumers are sick and tired of seeing “AI slop” content all over their feeds. Everyone is begging for authentic, genuinely crafted, HUMAN content. Give the people what they want!

How to write without AI

As difficult and time-consuming as it may feel, try to write your own landing page copy, social captions, or video scripts whenever you can. Doing so offers your potential customers a real glimpse of who you are and what your business is all about. In essence, it gives you a chance to show off your real, human voice—there’s truly nothing like it!

This doesn’t mean you need to spend hours every week typing furiously on your laptop. You can certainly leverage AI tools like Claude or ChatGPT to come up with blog ideas for your business or provide paid ad script examples to give you a starting point. You can even have your chosen LLM write an outline for an SEO blog post that is fully optimized so your ideal client can more easily find your work.

Just don’t forget that there is only one YOU; no AI model or algorithm can replicate all the creative and exciting thoughts and ideas in your brain. But, we also know that those thoughts can swirl in a way that becomes a little overwhelming sometimes. That’s why we’re here.
